Senate Approves $738 Billion Defense Bill, Sending It to Trump

Related image      Today, on December 17, the Senate passed a defense policy that would be one of the most expensive ever and cost around $738 billion. After taking off many amendments and provisions of the liberal House's version of the bill, the final vote in the senate was 86 to 6. Some of the big effects of the bill include a 3% wage increase for US troops, the creation of the Space Force as a sixth branch of military, and sanctions on countries. The creation of the Space Force is not as much as most of America thinks; it is only a re-organization of military and space groups in the government. One of the sanctions includes one on a Russian energy company tries to reduce the country's reliance on Ukrainian gas. The company wanted to build a pipeline under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany. Another topic addressed in the bill was Turkey's use of American-made military jets. It bars Turkey from gaining American-made F-35 fighter jets because of its use of a Russian-made missile defense system installed in the capital.
1. What do you think is the general conservative's view of the Space Force?

2. What could have been the United States' objective to sanction the Russian energy company. What were their motives?

  1. 1. I think that conservatives would generally be in favor of the space force. Conservatives are generally in favor of increasing the military to keep Americans safe and be able to defend ourselves from harm. A conservative might view the space force as a necessary part of the armed forces to defend against foreign satellites or weapons that are space-borne. It could also help America better defend against missiles. The conservative might not be in favor of it because of how much it costs. A conservative would be against an increase in spending, even if it's on defense.

  2. Overall, I believe that conservatives passionately support Space Force. Conservatives feel that a powerful military would result in a stronger defense system for the country and a safer world. In order to gain more secutiry, Republicans are willing to spend as much money as possible.

  3. 1. I would think that conservatives would support the space force bill as it was something that Trump used as one of his campaign points. His supporters always back his decisions, so I would see no reason why this would be any different. I actually like the increase in military wage as I have read many articles about how soldiers are treated poorly coming out of service, and how they make next to nothing compared to what they do for our country. I also understand removing the jets from Turkey which is also something that conservatives would appreciate given their motto America First. I hope that the actual space force does not turn into a syfy fantasy as some Democrats have made fun of it for being.
